Smartphone Called 'Blackphone' Launched for Privacy Conscious Customers

It was recently revealed by Edward Snowden that the NSA (National Security Agency) is secretly spying upon the people of US. For people who are concerned about their privacy, Blackphone can be quite savior. Blackphone is a smartphone created by the joint venture of Silent Cicle and Geeksphone. The handset was revealed this year in February at the Mobile World Congress. The Blackphone is running a modified version of Android OS called PrivatOS. The PrivatOS supports encrypted phone calls, encrypted video calling and encrypted text messaging. It does not allow Wi-Fi hotspots to collect personal information of the user. There is a feature called the Security Center through the user can control over the permissions for various apps and setting. The device supports anonymous internet browsing and VPN. Blackphone is not a device that can be praised for its appearance but what's present inside it. Blackphone manufacturers say that the device is meant for users like celebrities, people who deal with sensitive information, executives, and all those people who are worried about their privacy. Blackphone gives the power to the user which allows them to decide what information they would like to share, what they would like to communicate. The manufacturers of Blackphone have completely kept the details of the development program of the device secret. The manufacturers have not directly claimed that it's a 'NSA proof' device but people who are sharing information about Blackphone have already started using that jargon. Reviewers have already published rave ratings for the highly secure operating system that does not any support of data leakage. However, the user interface of the OS is slightly boring and appears outdated. One major drawback of the Blackphone is the price tag of $630. Moreover, the specifications of the handset may not impress all. Still the demand for the phone is very high. The handset comes with host of security apps such as Silent Phone, Silent Text, and Silent Contacts. Geeksphone Blackphone features a 4.7inch HD IPS display screen. It supports 720 x 1280 pixels resolution. It is powered with a 2GHz quad-core processor coupled with 2GB RAM. At the rear side, there is an 8MP camera whereas at the front, there is a 1.3MP camera for video calling. The internal storage of the device is 16GB. It offers connectivity features like Wi-Fi and 4G LTE. As of now, carriers haven't announced any news on supporting the security centered smartphone.
